"I was able to discuss all my options with Dave and tell him what was important to me. After we figured out what my goals for the frame was we picked a geometry. I decided to use the geometry from my previous cross bike, but with some custom changes to it. Making it more friendly with my aggressive riding style. I will always take the fast technical line over the smooth safe line. I was also able to pick options like a tapered head tube, disc brakes, thru axles, and the tube set. I wanted all the above but thru axles."
"Together we decided on Columbus life tubing which would give me the best strength to weight ration since this was to become a top level race bicycle. I then was able to help design and choose the paint scheme. In the end I couldn't wait to see the final product! When I first laid eyes on the frame I could not get over how beautiful it turned out, and when I finally threw a leg over it I was blown away. After racing and riding frames made of carbon, aluminum, and steel from most of the big name companies I feel I have a good idea of what's what on a cross frame. The difference between my former carbon race bike and my new Dogwood is amazing."
"The Dogwood is just as stiff, fast, and responsive as the high end carbon frame. However as you race around the course on the dogwood it's a much smoother and comfortable ride. It helps keep you planted and thus power on the pedals instead of bouncing around the course. You also walk away not feeling as beat up. It is not quite as light as a carbon frame but it is close. The frame is much lighter and more responsive than any production steel frame I have ridden. Never once during the past season of racing on the Dogwood did I think to myself my bike is to heavy. The frame turned out to be everything I dreamed of and it rode even better!"
"The end product is a truly handcrafted piece of art that you can beat and abuse everyday! It was so good I was able to take it to a top five in a UCI race and a 14th place at nationals. Might I add it was the only metal bike to make it into the top 15.'
"Working with Dogwood was a dream!"
It was great working with Merv to build the perfect balance for light and fast to help him at Cross Nationals.
